LEDs (else known as light diodes or light emitting diodes) have specific features – energy efficiency and resilience – and meet the main requirements of our time thereby, what brings them more and more popularity each year. More their advantages are that they offer unbelievably long lifetime, what allows to decrease expenses both in operation and maintenance. At the present moment, city illumination based on LED technology is now being tested on streets of Fürth. 6 lighting fixtures were installed on the way to the airport.
The test fixtures are made in cooperation of Osram (development of light emitting diodes) with Schréder, one of the largest market leaders in outdoor illumination. The named six LED bulbs of the P 186 type were specially developed by Schréder for Fürth’s traffic and power supply firm infra fürth. It was used 96 OSRAM Golden Dragon Plus light emitting diodes with an output of 1.2 watts in one street lamp, all of them are shared by two bulb sections. The lamps are set up at a height of 8 meters. It is quite noticeable that LED street illuminations have different design than usual ones. In the dark time, the difference is seen much clearer due to their really brilliant white light.

EU Cuts off Manufacturing of Incandescent Light Lamps and Becomes Greener
14 September 2009 - 10:00Martin Goetzeler, CEO of Osram, reports that ecologically safe products make up to 65% of all present-say sales and the company has set a goal to turn this figure to 80% in the nearest years.
If international situation is taken into account, it’s fair to say that we are at the turning point for out-of-dated technologies and EU is going to aggravate the situation with a decision on cutting off the manufacturing of incandescent light lamps. Though the named bulbs are quite popular, their role in the company benefits was insignificant for a very long time. The ban will be performed in stages and is planned to come into full force by 2016. From September 1st, the first phase begins with lay off for the both 100 Watt lamp, one of the most significant electricity eaters, and frosted-glass light bulbs.

LED bulbs penetrate the home lighting market
5 June 2009 - 10:00Lightfair International – the annual trade show at the Javits Center in New York – presents the recent achievements in the Lighting industry; however, if you look carefully, you will certainly notice that LED lights are not that far from us. They appear to be installed on every stand of the show. Still, people are not that aware of home application of LED lighting since they generally meet light-emitting diodes somewhere inside electronic devices. Very few people have actually used LED bulbs at home.
